Is anyone (especially sysops) opposed to me adding small school virtual nationals at the bottom of this page? Drewagon 15:55, 7 June 2007 (PDT)

I think that's a great idea! But I would ask Kort whether he'd prefer giving the Small School nationals its own page.JSK 17:03, 7 June 2007 (PDT)

Statistics[edit]

Can anyone provide me with the statistical method used to get the national statistics? For some reason, my standard deviation calculation isn't the same as the number here.

How I'm getting my National Mean (which comes out the same): put scores in Excel, cells A1 through A23 (copy and paste works best for this).

Use the following equation, in cell A24: =AVERAGE(A1:A23)

Root mean square (cell A25): =SQRT(SUMSQ(A1:A23)/COUNT(A1:A23))

Standard Deviation: =SQRT(A25*A25-A24*A24)

When I do standard deviation, I get 2078.4----Collegebookworm (before 2008)

  • OK, here's the Excel I used...before you burn me at the stake, please see where I messed up...---Collegebookworm

HEY[edit]

I've found a way to get some possible info on old scores from the late 1990s. archive.org

The following page links to what it calls the "1998" results, but the information suggests itself to be the 1997 results, based upon the Top Ten schools. Any suggestions on what to do with it?

[1]

Anyways, regardless of what year's data this is, Wisconsin's 1997 team may actually have been Catholic Memorial High School, Wisconsin rather than Eau Claire Memorial High School, Wisconsin.

I think it would be good to add all the information possible. Scores aren't associated with the placings, but some information is better than no information. And imo, names and placings are more important than simply having numbers.

Also, yes, you're right. Catholic Memorial won that year. The 1997 results page agrees with USAD so that information can(has been) be changed.

Rearrangement of the Nationals page[edit]

Personally I think the current Nationals page is kind of ridiculous. It seems to me that it would be more sensible to have the All National Winners page be the Nationals page since it has more (but not too much) information on it. Anyone have a problem of simply make the All National Winners page be the current Nationals page? - Adam 12:18, 9 February 2008 (PST)

Themes by Year[edit]

Would it be okay if I went through all of the nationals pages and edited the info box in the upper right corner to show the theme for that year? For example, I would put "Theme: Latin America" under "Events: 10 subjects in 2 disciplines" on the 2009 page. I would also edit the Super Quiz headings to look like this [2] Madcap 04:37, 23 May 2009 (UTC)Madcap

International Competition[edit]

USAD says that 2010 will be the 2nd year, unless I'm mistaken, Madcap? CB...(ö) 23:27, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

I thought I first saw that announcement back in 2008 and assumed USAD wasn't bothering to update their website. :p But you're right. I'll fix it now. Madcap 02:30, 8 December 2009 (UTC)Madcap

Future sites[edit]

I think we should put the future sites somewhere else than on here; it distracts from the actual national championship of a given year if there is five years ahead of it76.30.220.150 18:06, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree, and 24.252.13.201 just edited the page with a solution, which seems to work quite well. I added a space between the recorded nationals and the future nationals. Thanks for the input. Madcap 22:53, 29 January 2012 (UTC)Madcap
